POR15: Anti-dumping tax for Vietnamese pangasius in US decreased

(vasep.com.vn) On April 29, 2020, the Federal Register has officially announced the final results of the 15th administrative review (POR15) for shipments. Vietnam pangasius exports to the US market in the period from August 1, 2017 to July 31, 2018.

Accordingly, two enterprises of Vietnam pangasius export: NTSF Seafood Joint Stock Company (NTSF SEAFOODS) and Can Tho Seafood Import-Export Joint Stock Company (DNEAMEX) The tax rate is USD 0.15 / kg

The remaining Vietnamese enterprises exporting pangasius to the US enjoy a tax rate equal to the national tax rate of 2.39 USD / kg.

This is good news for Vietnam's pangasius exports in general and NTSF SEAFOODS; CASEAMEX in particular because compared with the previous review tax (POR14), this tax rate has been significantly reduced from USD 1.37 / kg (for NTSF SEAFOODS) to USD 0.15 / kg.

In addition, the two largest pangasius exporting enterprises to the US market are: VINH HOAN CORP and BIEN DONG SEAFOOD are still kept the tax rates of 0% and 0.19% in the POR15 review, respectively.

By the end of March 2020, the total value of Vietnam's pangasius exports to the US market reached US $ 61.77 million, down 13.2% over the same period last year. Despite the decline compared to the same period last year, businesses have begun to see optimistic light from this market after a year of pangasius export value to this market continuously decreased in 12 months.

With the reduction of antidumping duties for the two enterprises, Vietnamese pangasius will have more hope and opportunities to expand its export lines to the US market. However, up to this point, COVID-19 epidemic is still disrupting import and export activities of US businesses. Therefore, it may take the second quarter of 2020, Vietnam's pangasius exports to be stronger to return to the US market.
