This result is influenced by the decline in pangasius export value to the large market of China - Hong Kong. In two months, pangasius export value to this market reached 28.4 million USD, down 52.4% compared to the same period in 2019.

The prolonged Lunar New Year holiday, combined with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in Wuhan (China), caused the cat fish export to the biggest market of 2019, China, to be stopped. Orders of the first two months of this year were delayed or interrupted in export. Some businesses said that the number of orders in February and March 2020 is only about 30% compared to the same period last year. However, since the middle of March 2020, after the disease situation was better controlled, Chinese customers have started to place orders again, goods circulation has begun to restart. Since April 2020, Pangasius export to China - Hong Kong market is likely to stabilize gradually.

Earlier this year, signaling more fun in the US market, by the end of February 2020, the export value of pangasius to the US reached 38.6 million USD, down nearly 27% compared to the same period last year. However, in February 2020, the export value of pangasius to this market reached US $ 20.6 million, accounting for nearly 19% of the pangasius export value and up nearly 67% over the same period in 2019. The decline in export continuous last year due to trade and technical barriers in this market has led many businesses to withdraw. However, earlier this year, when inventories of white fish products, including pangasius in the US, decreased, businesses have more opportunities to increase exports to this market.

In the first two months of 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has not seriously affected trade in Vietnam pangasius in the EU market, but the export value to this market was only US $ 26 million, down nearly 40% from the previous period. with the same period last year. The average price of imported pangasius in many markets decreased. However, since March 2020, when Italy, Germany and the UK - potential markets for Vietnamese pangasius became the focus of the epidemic, the trade activities to these markets have stopped. The restaurant and hotel chains have been shut down to prevent the spread of corona virus, many orders have been suspended and customers have not announced when the transaction will resume. Some interoperable EU customers are constantly asking to reduce prices, while the average export price of pangasius to some EU countries in the beginning of this year has decreased by 10-15% compared to in the same period last year.

Earlier this year, ASEAN was the third largest export market of Vietnam pangasius (after the US and China - Hong Kong) with a two-month export value of US $ 26.5 million, down 19.3%. In particular, the three largest single export markets, Thailand, fell 10.9%; Malaysia is down 5.8% and Singapore is down 34% over the same period last year. On March 16, 2020, Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced a blockade of the entire country for two weeks to prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19, many fish orders. Investigation into this market has been delayed. This is considered a potential and stable export market in ASEAN in 2019 and subsequent years. Under the current situation, Pangasius orders to Malaysia in the next 3 months are still waiting for feedback from partners.

In addition to major export markets, in the first two months of 2020, pangasius exports to Brazil decreased by 16%; Mexico decreased by 58.7%, Colombia by 6%, Australia by 22.7%. But the good news is that in February 2020, pangasius exports to Brazil, Colombia and Australia grew more optimistically compared to the same period last year.

In March 2-3 / 2020, an abnormal drought situation happened in the Mekong Delta, making raw material Pangasius farming area seriously affected. Farmers in some localities have stopped farming due to lack of water and irrigation conditions for new crops. Until now, due to the influence of the market and epidemics, many businesses still try to ensure jobs for workers. The "revival" of Pangasius imports in China - Hong Kong market is one of the hopes for exporting enterprises in the beginning of this year due to the great influence from the Covid-2019 pandemic.
