For pangasius industry to develop

“In order for the Pangasius industry to develop ,according to what I have to do the following: The breeding output must always be lower than the market demand of at least 10%, reorganize the manufacturing process towards the cohesion between the breeders and the processing plant; Continue to put science-engineering into breeding in the direction of high-tech application; Continue to expand the export market... "- Chairman of the Board of Directors cum General Director of Nam Viet Doan Toi Group shared.

2019 is about to end, preparing to enter the new year 2020, but the price of pangasius on the market is still low. Average pangasius in export size (600 - 800gr), about 19,000-19,500 VND / kg. At this price, the breeders have the lowest loss of 2,500 VND / kg.

This year’s crop , his family Tran Van Kheo (Khanh Hoa commune, Chau Phu) raised 2 fish ponds. The estimated yield is about 700 tons / crop. To date, his fish have been reared in the year. In the pond ,the fish has exceeded its export size but he hasn't sold yet. The reason is that the buying price of the trader is too low compared to his breeding price, so he decided to keep the fish again... Wait for the price. In addition to his family, there are many other farmers who are struggling in the consumption of products. "According to the usual, at the time of August, September and October until the end of the year, in markets import large quantities of goods to prepare for sale for Christmas and New Year. At that time, the factories began to buy exports, rising fish prices. This year, it is not known how the price of fish is not up but falls down, making the consumption of fish in many difficulties "-Mr. Kheo reflected.

Mr. Doan Toi said that at the end of 2018, importers were worried that Pangasius prices would increase, they had increased the amount of imported goods for storage, so through 2019, right from the beginning of the year, importers In countries where there has been less buying, the price of pangasius has fallen to a low level. According to a report of the General Department of Fisheries, as of the middle of November, 1919, the farming area of Pangasius in the whole Mekong Delta was 7,127ha (an increase of 2,086ha compared to the same period in 2018), the harvest yield reached 1,072,677 tons (down 84,323 tons compared to the same period in 2018). Particularly for An Giang province, the area of farming pangasius reached 1,200 ha, the harvest output was about 300,000 tons.

Looking at this figure shows that, by the year 2017, 2018, pangasius in the market are very well worth the business, farmers organize the expansion of the area, from which the whole industry falls into the state of "supply" beyond the "bridge". As of today, Vietnam's pangasius Turnover in the year 2019 has not yet surpassed US $2.1 billion, while the last year 2018, this figure is 2.26 billion USD. Raising area, export turnover decreases, the status of losses is unavoidable.

In order to grow sustainably, according to many businesses and fishermen, all participants in this industry must win. This means, breeders, businesses, importers, food sellers, aquatic veterinary medicines; Mechanical and transportation... All must have been profitable. While the current practice, processing enterprises, supplying food holding the profits of the whole chain at a very high rate, accounts for nearly 40% of the profits obtained from this industry; The remaining 60% are divided by importers, processing products for export, veterinary aquatic medicine, livestock, fisheries mechanical businesses and other participating components.

Thus, the producers (businesses and fish farmers), the profits account for a very small part, while the other participants get very high profits, processing aquatic food is a typical. . “In Pangasius farming, feed, aquatic veterinary medicine account for a large proportion of capital. Food and medicine increase every year, while fish prices increase, decrease year, the risk is always lurking, but the profit is not much, so it is not reasonable ... ”- Ms. Tran Le Thuy (fisherman in Da Phuoc communes and An Phu) reflect.

Seeing the inadequacies of the pangasius industry, over the past time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the provinces in the Mekong Delta region have found a solution to overcome this problem and this solution starts with the seed. So the 3-level Pangasius breeding program was born, this program overcomes the disadvantages of the breed. After 2021, the fishing community will have healthy, disease-free seed, thereby helping farmers reduce the mortality of fish when released into the tunnel. “The new breed is just one of many problems that need to be addressed by the pangasius industry. In my opinion, apart from breeding animals, the issue of product consumption, and the regulation of farming output of the whole region every year is a very important factor. Recently, although the state has mobilized fishermen and businesses to sit together to have a common voice, up to this point, the farming cooperation through contracts to link the consumption of products up to now has only been counted on Fingertips about the number of fishermen involved. In addition, there are many obstacles surrounding the issue of the purchase price of businesses for fishermen is the purchase price at market prices ”- Mrs .Thuy pressing.

“For pangasius industry to develop, the management role of the state is very important, because only the state and industry associations can regulate farming production. As for farmers, whenever the price of fish is high, everyone "leaps" into farming, while the authorities have not had sufficiently strong sanctions, thereby making "supply" exceed "demand". I recommend that the State and industry associations should further improve their management role to regulate farming production and other decisive issues ”- Mr. Tran Van Kheo proposed.
